this (relatively) old archetype seems to be one of the more viable options come rotation. so, I naturally made a decklist, ignoring the original RGW build and going for RGB. black gives more card drawing options and some sexier threats than white. card drawing engines are pretty crucial because they lend fuel to the Fires. -rimshot- anyway, here's my most recent decklist:
BLACK FIRES
4 Bloodstained Mire 4 Wooded Foothills 4 City of Brass 6 Forest 3 Swamp 3 Mountain
4 Birds of Paradise 3 Shivan Wurm 2 Siege-Gang Commander 4 Faceless Butcher 3 Flametongue Kavu 3 Ravenous Baloth 2 Eternal Witness 3 [Bob Maher Man]
4 Fires of Yavimaya 4 AEther Vial 4 Living Wish
S I D E B O A R D 1 Siege-Gang Commander 1 Silvos, Rogue Elemental 1 Molder Slug 1 Flametongue Kavu 1 Shivan Wurm 1 Genesis 1 Spiritmonger 1 Eternal Witness 4 Pernicious Deed 3 Engineered Plague
**EDIT** Changed the list around a bit.

i really think that those Yukoras should be replaced by Grim Lavamancers, the Nights Whispers should be replaced by Browbeats, and the land base should have a tiny tiny tiny splash of black for some sb cards. also put some lands in the sb because Living wish can go for those too(most people forget that)

I'm actually thinking that the Whispers will become Bob Maher's Invitational card, have you seen it?
[Bob Maher Man] BB Creature At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library and put it into your hand. You lose life equal to that card's converted mana cost. 2/1
I really wanna keep the black maindeck but I dunno what kind of threats will be good after rotation. This deck has a feeling like it should be three colors, but I just can't think of what to slot in! Crap.

well back when fires was in T2, the only real purpose it(black) had was to jump in after the game one from the sb and pull some really cool nuts. i think htat that game plan would still be very good

did fires wish in type 2? i guess.
i dunno.
i do want to keep at least one black guy maindeck. i like the synergy of laquatus' champ, but 6cc is the highest drop and i'm not sure about it. murr. grinning demon is strong but lacks synergy (no evasion, no neato 514). plus i don't want to lose any more life on my upkeep. kokusho would be better: if he dies, i get 5 life. and they lose 5.

see the thing is that made fires good way back when was the ability to play cheap undercosted fat. Blastoderm, Shivan Wurm, Flametongue, etc. were all great because they could come into play cheap and wreak incredible havoc before they died.
its much more of a suicide deck then people realize.
thats why i like things like Spiritmonger, but would support more things like Call of the Herd and Blistering Firecat

isn't firecat a little redundant, though?

I'm working on a Fires Combo deck. It includes Wild Mongrel, Spellweaver Helix, Roar of the Wurm, Chatter of the Squirrel, and Crush of Wurms. I'll post a list sometime next week.
The idea is to Quiet Speculation/Mongrel pitch 2 Chatter and 1 Crush to the yard. Get Fires into play and Helix imprinting Chatter and Crush. Flashback Chatter #2. So, you have 3 Hasty 6/6 Wurms.....attack...sac Fires....deal 20.
It sounds janky at first, but once you play it, you realize it is fast and really evil.
