Okay, this is a good point made on mtgnews.com. The removal of Birds of Paradise from the core set was clearly a significant decision. If it wasn't just Wizards being 4S5h0L3Z then it was a clear-cut decision made based on the following block's theme. If Wizards is killing Birds in 9th and putting them in a Block Constructed environment, could there be a hint there that a mana-producer of 5 different colors could be crucial in the block? Hmm. If it is...
...could we be facing another Invasion?
If you look on mtgnews (I'm too lazy to put the info here) the exact same design team from Invasion block is being used for Control-Alt-Delete block. Look at the block name! Control-Alt-Delete refers to the override key combo on Windows platforms.
A quick aside: for those of you too green to remember, Invasion marked a renaissance for Magic. It brought the game out of Combo Winter where Urza's and Masques brokens dominated. So a new Invasion would be...GOOD.
We've had no gold cards since Onslaught's measly 3 (that I can think of). And those were crappy too! This is what happened when Invasion came out. Wizards is storing their typical per-set allotment of gold cards for this new Invasion-like set. Again, I'm stating this as unsubstantiated rumor.
Mirrodin resulted in nothing but a warp of the environment around Affinity. Perhaps Kamigawa will not give us much better (I disagree with that statement but whatever). If this turns out to be the truth, could Control-Alt-Delete be the second coming that Magic kinda needs? Let's hope so, for the sake of the game.
